These cookies were from my own baby shower! The most amazing part is that I managed to get these done at eight months pregnant. Ugh.

Slacking on posting pics, I know. These dinosaur cookies were for my sister-in-law's baby shower. I'm afraid I didn't get any good photos, just on my cell phone.

Hot Pink Onesies and Mustache Cookies

My little brother's nickname is 'Stache'...so when we found out he and his girlfriend were having a baby girl, I had to make mustache cookies.

Hot pink and black were the colors the mom-to-be wanted. We kind of went overboard with that.

Baby Shower Cookies

Its been a while! Moving into a new house will definitely keep you busy. The good news is, I finally have a nice big kitchen with an island and plenty of counter space to work with. No more nightmare baking sessions in a galley-style kitchen, ugh.

I've been wanting to make decorated sugar cookies again for some time now, but have been reluctant since I haven't been able to find the perfect recipe; one that tastes good, is slightly tender, and doesn't spread to a misshapen blob of a cookie.

So after much searching and a lot of wasted dough, I found it!

A friend at work needed some baby shower cookies for her friend's party, so I was happy to try out some new tricks.

I also found a new Royal Icing recipe, and it seems much better than the Martha Stewart one I had been using all this time. It doesn't get as tooth-shattering hard and has a better taste. I suppose for shipping cookies, Martha's may be better.

I have a niece on the way, and will be having a baby shower in late October for her. Should be posting many pictures of my first try at a dessert table for that.

I need to practice making cakes now. Scary.

Mardi Gras Birthday

These were actually very fun to make! Filled with chocolate frosting and decorated with modeling chocolate.

I'm tired already...

I've been completely burned out (hah) on baking for some time now. I blame my tiny kitchen. Working on fixing this soon though, hopefully... ;)

Have two birthdays coming up in the next week or two that are going to keep me very busy. The plan is a set of Mardi Gras/LSU cupcakes and a set of Star Trek ones. We'll see how this goes!

Also have to get going on a few sets of cookie bouquets for a high school team-building exercise sort of thing.

In the meantime, here are some cupcakes I made a while back. I'll be trying out the monogram thingie again on the Mardi Gras cupcakes I think.

The checkered pattern just about killed me.

Need to experiment a little and try to make it more uniform.

On the plus side; these were the best tasting ones yet, by far!

For my wonderful brother in law. The only person I know who actually understands these symbols...

These were the trickiest cupcakes I've made so far, lots of little bits to cut out and lots of geometric shapes to try to make match.

There was just no way of perfecting these, but they were fun to make!

Must make some frilly girly cupcakes soon... I'm on geek overload. ><

Have a Halloween-themed baby shower coming up very soon... already have ideas sketched out for that. Then a real Halloween party a few weeks later, not sure what I'll be making.

One of these days soon I'm going to have to suck it up and make some decorated sugar cookies again, but I cringe when I think of the mess. Ugh.

Horde cupcakes

I've been wanting to make Horde cupcakes for a while now. I'm a big World of Warcraft fan, and there aren't nearly enough WoW-related baked goods online!

These are chocolate cupcakes, filled with chocolate icing and covered with black and red fondant.

I made my own stencil for the Horde symbol with an X-acto knife and some thin plastic and then used it to cut out the fondant.

Birthday cupcakes

This was my first real attempt at using fondant. I wanted to make something pretty for a co-worker's birthday party.

The 'quilted' ones were the most difficult... it was hard not to slice right through the fondant.

I filled the fondant cupcakes with whipped frosting to give them more flavor. The tops are decorated with royal icing.

I was afraid people wouldn't like the taste of the fondant ones, so I made some super puffy cupcakes with whipped frosting to make sure everyone was happy. (The yellow lemon ones were the favorites!)
